Open Gear Lubricant — Mining and Cement
Extreme open gear lubricant for ball mills, rotary kilns and excavators — manual paste and fluid for automatic system
High-adhesion open gear lubricant (OGL) for the lubrication of large-module crowns and pinions (m ≥ 16) in ball mills, cement rotary kilns, aggregate mills and large-tonnage excavators. Operating conditions are the most extreme in industry: peripheral speed 0.3–3 m/s, very high tooth load (Hertz contact pressure > 1,500 N/mm²), tooth temperature 60–140°C, continuous exposure to abrasive dust, water and sudden load changes. The formulation combines: high molecular weight adhesive polymers (prevent lubricant centrifugation at low speed), high-purity colloidal graphite (solid lubricant backup when fluid film breaks), MoS₂ (friction coefficient reduction under extreme load) and high-viscosity PAO synthetic or mineral HC base (ISO VG 1,500–3,000). Available in TWO variants depending on the installation's application system.
Specifications
Custom formulation available
Characteristics
- High molecular weight adhesive polymers — stable film at low RPM without centrifugation
- Colloidal graphite + MoS₂ — dual solid lubricant backup under extreme load
- ISO VG 1,500–3,000 — high base viscosity for hydrodynamic film on large teeth
- Water wash-out resistance — does not wash away in wet cement plants
- Compatible with Lincoln, Vogel and Graco automatic spray systems
Typical applications
- Ball mill crowns and pinions (Holcim, Heidelberg, Votorantim)
- Pinion-crown gears on cement rotary kilns (⌀ 4–8 m)
- Bucket wheel excavator and dredge transmissions
- Pinion drives on aggregate and quarry mills
- Open gears on rolling mills and heavy-duty presses
Sectors
Key advantages
- Very high volume per contract — one mill consumes 500–2,000 kg/year
- Direct competition with Klüber Grafloscon, Mobil Mobilith, Shell Malleus
- High unit price but client validates by consumption/wear — not just price
- Dual variant — covers both spray system and manual application clients
- Direct entry to cement and mining companies with annual supply contract
